Adam & The Ants - My Story

1977 - 1982...

January
Malcolm McLaren is employed by Adam as a “consultant “ on a monthly basis. He plays the band two singles: Burundi Black and John Kongos’ He’s Gonna Step On You Again to indicate the sound he feels is right for the band. He advises the group to change from their fetish inspired clothing to a look combining Native American Indian and Pirate imagery. Malcolm himself takes a strong liking for this new sound and “sacks” Adam, with the remaining three members and lead singer Annabella L’win he forms Bow Wow Wow. Adam keeps the band name and goes to see his old friend Marco Pirroni…..

..…I do not wish to dwell on the past, only the future should concern us…..musically I admire The Doors, Sex Pistols, New York Dolls, James White & The Blacks and tribal music of all shapes and sizes, amongst my contemporaries I only admire Paul Weller, Kenny Morris, Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood. …………….The version of Physical we’re working on will tear you apart.

…….I hope my new Ants will fulfil all my aspirations for both friend and foe. We will be proud and full of honour……I admire Paul Weller as a punk statesman. But all my other contemporaries have slipped into the big time…The musical direction, is now and always shall be Antmusic, the guidelines and rules of which are set by me and Marco……..

….the confusion has caused this trouble. All will be solved soon. Please be patient. Keep the faith. Muchos Regardos Adam Ant………………….
